The P0711 fault code indicates that the Transmission Control Module (TCM) has detected an abnormal or implausible signal from the Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor “A” — either it’s too high, too low, or not changing as expected.
1.️ Check Engine Light (CEL)
2.️ Harsh or delayed shifting
3. Torque converter not locking properly
4. Transmission may enter limp mode
5. Poor cold-weather shifting
6. Overheating transmission not detected correctly
1. Faulty or inaccurate transmission fluid temperature sensor
2. Sensor stuck at a fixed temperature (no fluctuation)
3. Contaminated or degraded transmission fluid
4. Wiring issues – short to ground, open circuit, or connector corrosion
5. Internal TCM malfunction (rare)
✅ Step-by-step:
1. Scan live data from TFT sensor
– If temp reads constant (e.g. −40°C or 150°C), it’s likely bad or disconnected
2. Check transmission fluid condition
– Old, burnt, or very cold fluid can trigger this code — replace if needed
3. Inspect and clean sensor connector
– Look for water intrusion, loose pins, or broken wires
4. Test sensor resistance with multimeter
– Resistance should vary with temperature (e.g. ~1000 ohms at ~90°C)
5. Replace the sensor
– Usually located on the valve body or inside the transmission pan
6. Clear the code and test drive
1. Audi / VW DSG
2. ZF 6HP / 8HP
3. Hyundai, Toyota, Ford, BMW, Mercedes, and others with electronic transmissions
