P0724 - Hyundai

DTC P0724 indicates that the TCM (Transmission Control Module) or ECM has detected an abnormally high voltage from the brake switch “B” circuit. This circuit is part of the system that tells the vehicle’s computer when you press the brake pedal—essential for gear shifting, cruise control, and torque converter lockup.

Common Symptoms:

1. Check Engine Light (CEL)
2. Cruise control not working
3. Harsh or delayed gear shifts
4. Brake lights may stay on continuously
5. Transmission may not shift out of park
6. Possible limp mode

Possible Causes:

1. Faulty brake pedal switch (especially the second or “B” switch)
2. Misadjusted brake switch
3. Short to voltage in the brake switch wiring
4. Sticking brake pedal
5. Faulty TCM/ECM (rare)

Fixes to Try:

1. Inspect the brake light switch and ensure it’s not stuck or faulty
2. Use a multimeter to test voltage at the switch connector
3. Check for frayed or shorted wiring in the brake switch circuit
4. Replace the brake switch if it’s not operating within range
5. Clear the code and retest the system after the repair
