P072D - Skoda

This code is triggered when the Transmission Control Module (TCM) detects that the gear shift lock solenoid “B” is stuck in the ON position, even when it shouldn’t be.

Common Symptoms:

1. Gear shifter stuck in Park or Neutral
2. Delay or difficulty shifting gears
3. Check Engine Light (CEL) on
4. Transmission may enter limp mode

Common Causes:

1. Faulty gear shift lock solenoid “B”
2. Damaged or corroded wiring/connectors
3. Faulty Transmission Control Module (TCM)
4. Short to power or ground in the solenoid circuit
5. Internal mechanical issues in the gear shifter

Recommended Fixes:

1. Scan with a professional OBD-II tool to confirm code and related freeze frame data
2. Inspect and clean gear shift lock solenoid connectors and wiring
3. Test solenoid B for electrical continuity and operation
4. Replace the solenoid if it is stuck or not actuating properly
5. If wiring and solenoid are OK, inspect/replace TCM
