P0731 indicates that the Transmission Control Module (TCM) has detected an incorrect gear ratio when the transmission is operating in 1st gear. The actual gear ratio (calculated from input and output speed sensors) does not match the expected ratio for 1st gear.
1. Low or dirty transmission fluid
2. Faulty shift solenoid (especially for 1st gear)
3. Worn or damaged clutch pack for 1st gear
4. Malfunctioning input or output speed sensors
5. Internal transmission failure
6. Faulty TCM or software glitch
7. Damaged wiring or corroded connectors
1. Harsh or delayed shifting into 1st gear
2. Slipping when starting from a stop
3. Poor acceleration
4. Transmission stuck in limp mode
5. Check Engine Light (CEL)
6. Jerking during take-off
1. Check and replace transmission fluid (low level or dirty fluid)
2. Scan live data for speed sensor readings
3. Test/replace input and output speed sensors
4. Inspect/replace faulty shift solenoids
5. Check wiring and connectors for shorts, opens, or corrosion
6. Perform a TCM software update or reprogramming
7. Transmission rebuild if internal damage (clutches, gears) is found
