P0743 - Honda

DTC P0743 indicates that the Transmission Control Module (TCM) has detected an electrical fault in the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid circuit. This typically means there is an open or shorted circuit, or the solenoid is not responding properly to TCM commands. The TCC solenoid controls the engagement of the torque converter clutch, which helps lock the engine and transmission together at higher speeds for better fuel efficiency.

Symptoms:

1. Check Engine Light (CEL)
2. Poor fuel economy
3. Harsh or delayed shifting
4. Torque converter not locking at highway speeds
5. Vehicle may go into limp mode
6. Possible transmission overheating

Common Causes:

1. Faulty TCC solenoid (electrical failure)
2. Damaged wiring or connectors (short to ground, open circuit, corrosion)
3. Blown fuse in TCC circuit
4. Faulty TCM (rare but possible)
5. Internal transmission issues (affecting solenoid function)

Possible Fixes:

1. Scan live data for TCC solenoid operation
2. Check and test TCC solenoid (resistance test; usually 10–15 ohms)
3. Inspect wiring and connectors between solenoid and TCM
4. Check for blown fuses or relays related to the transmission
5. Replace TCC solenoid if resistance is out of spec or solenoid is unresponsive
6. Flush transmission fluid if contaminated
7. Reprogram or replace TCM if electrical commands are faulty

Vehicles Commonly Affected:

1. Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep (very common with this code)
2. GM vehicles with 4L60E and 4T65E transmissions
3. Honda (seen in older Accords and Odysseys)
4. Ford (occasionally with 4R70W and similar transmissions)
