Code P0764 indicates that Shift Solenoid “D” is not performing properly or is stuck in the OFF position. This solenoid controls fluid flow for shifting gears in your automatic transmission. If it sticks or fails, the transmission may shift incorrectly or not at all.
1. Faulty Shift Solenoid D
2. Sticking valve in valve body
3. Low or dirty transmission fluid
4. Wiring issues – damaged wires, open circuits, bad connectors
5. Failed PCM/TCM (rare)
1. Hard or delayed shifting
2. Gear slippage or skipping gears
3. Vehicle stuck in limp mode
4. Check Engine Light (CEL) ON
5. Poor acceleration or fuel economy
1. Scan for codes – look for related codes (P0760–P0765)
2. Check transmission fluid – if it’s low, dark, or smells burnt, replace it
3. Inspect wiring & connectors for damage or corrosion
4. Test solenoid D – measure resistance and activate via scan tool if supported
5. Inspect valve body – look for sticking components
6. Check for TCM updates or reprogramming if other issues persist
1. Replace Shift Solenoid D
2. Replace/clean transmission fluid and filter
3. Repair/replace damaged wiring or connectors
4. Clean/repair valve body
5. Reprogram or replace TCM/PCM if needed
6. Transmission rebuild (if internal mechanical damage found)
