P0771 - Ford

This code indicates a problem with the Shift Solenoid “B” (SSB) circuit in the transmission. The solenoid may not be responding correctly, or there’s an electrical issue.

Possible Causes

1. Faulty Shift Solenoid B – solenoid itself may be damaged.
2. Wiring issues – broken, frayed, or shorted wires in the solenoid circuit.
3. Poor connection – corroded or loose connector at the solenoid.
4. Transmission Fluid issues – low level, dirty, or wrong type of fluid.
5. Transmission Control Module (TCM) issues – rare but possible if the module isn’t sending proper signals.

Symptoms

1. Transmission stuck in one gear (usually 2nd or 3rd)
2. Delayed or harsh shifting
3. Check Engine Light ON
4. Transmission may default to limp mode

Common Fixes

1. Check Transmission Fluid – ensure it’s at proper level and clean.
2. Inspect Wiring & Connectors – repair any damage or corrosion.
3. Test Shift Solenoid B – resistance check and solenoid operation.
4. Replace Shift Solenoid B if defective.
5. Reset the TCM after repair to clear the code.
