P0777 - Ford

The PCM/TCM has detected that Pressure Control Solenoid B is stuck in the ON (closed) position, causing excessive hydraulic pressure in the transmission. This is the “opposite” of P0776 (Stuck OFF).

Possible Causes

1. Pressure Control Solenoid B stuck mechanically (valve jammed).
2. Internal short in the solenoid coil.
3. Contaminated, dirty, or low transmission fluid.
4. Blocked hydraulic passages in the valve body.
5. Damaged wiring/connectors (short to power).
6. Faulty TCM/PCM sending constant ON signal.
7. Internal transmission failure (clutch pack or valve body wear).

Symptoms

1. Check Engine Light ON.
2. Harsh, aggressive, or banging shifts.
3. Vehicle may jerk or surge when accelerating.
4. Transmission overheating due to constant high pressure.
5. Possible slipping or stuck in limp mode.
6. Poor drivability and fuel economy.

Diagnosis Steps

1. Check transmission fluid (level, condition, contamination).
2. Inspect wiring/connectors at Pressure Control Solenoid B.
3. Test solenoid resistance & continuity against spec.
4. Use a scan tool to monitor solenoid activation (should toggle ON/OFF, not stuck).
5. Inspect valve body for debris or sticking valves.
6. If solenoid and hydraulics are fine → suspect TCM/PCM fault.

Possible Fixes

1. Replace Pressure Control Solenoid B.
2. Transmission fluid & filter change.
3. Clean or replace valve body if passages blocked.
4. Repair/replace damaged wiring or connectors.
5. Reprogram or replace TCM/PCM if faulty.
6. Transmission overhaul (if internal mechanical failure).
