This code indicates that the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS), also known as the neutral safety switch / PRNDL switch, is sending an intermittent or erratic signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) or Engine Control Module (ECM).
1. Faulty transmission range sensor (TRS)
2. Loose or misadjusted TRS
3. Damaged wiring or corroded connectors in the TRS circuit
4. Fault inside the TCM/ECM (rare)
1. Transmission may not shift correctly
2. Gear indicator (PRNDL display) may be wrong or flicker
3. Engine may crank in wrong gear or not crank at all
4. Possible limp mode (failsafe)
5. Check Engine Light ON
1. Inspect and adjust the transmission range sensor.
2. Replace TRS if faulty.
3. Inspect wiring and connectors for corrosion, looseness, or damage.
4. Clear code and test drive.
