P1707 - Mahindra

Fault code P1707 is again part of the same family of transmission / range switch related DTCs. Its meaning depends on the brand, but it almost always points to the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) / Park-Neutral Position (PNP) switch circuit.

Common Definitions of P1707

1. Nissan / Infiniti:
P1707 – Transmission Range Switch Circuit Malfunction (PNP/Neutral Switch Input)
2. Ford / Mazda / Jaguar / Land Rover:
P1707 – Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) Fault / Incorrect Gear Ratio Detected from TRS
3. Hyundai / Kia:
P1707 – Inhibitor Switch Malfunction

Causes

1. Faulty or misadjusted Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) / PNP switch.
2. Damaged, corroded, or shorted wiring/connectors between TRS and TCM/ECM.
3. Misaligned or worn gear selector mechanism/linkage.
4. Internal fault in TCM (rare).

Symptoms

1. Check Engine Light (CEL) or transmission warning lamp.
2. Vehicle may fail to start in Park (but may start in Neutral).
3. Harsh or erratic gear shifting.
4. Incorrect gear indication on the dashboard.
5. Transmission may enter limp mode.

How to Diagnose / Fix

1. Check if the car starts in both Park and Neutral. If only in one, the PNP switch is suspect.
2. Inspect the TRS / inhibitor switch adjustment – sometimes just needs alignment.
3. Look for damaged/corroded wiring or loose connectors.
4. Test the switch with a multimeter to confirm continuity at each gear position.
5. Replace the PNP / TRS if faulty.
6. Clear code and retest.
