P0774 - Land Rover

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) has detected that Shift Solenoid “E” (sometimes called a Pressure Control Solenoid or SSA/SSB depending on the transmission type) is not operating consistently. It may be sticking, opening/closing intermittently, or not matching the commanded state.

Possible Causes

1. Faulty Shift Solenoid “E” 2. Dirty or contaminated transmission fluid
3. Low transmission fluid level
4. Clogged transmission filter
5. Wiring harness issues (damaged wires, poor connections, corrosion)
6. Faulty Transmission Control Module (TCM/PCM)
Internal hydraulic passages blocked in the valve body

Symptoms

1. Harsh or delayed shifting
2. Stuck in one gear (limp mode)
3. Slipping transmission
4. Check Engine Light (CEL) / Transmission warning light
5. Poor fuel economy

Recommended Fixes

1. Check transmission fluid – level, condition, contamination (burnt smell, dark fluid).
2. Replace/clean transmission filter if clogged.
3. Inspect wiring & connectors for damage or corrosion.
4. Test Shift Solenoid “E” with a multimeter or by commanding it on/off with a scan tool.
5. If solenoid is faulty → replace solenoid or valve body (if integrated).
6. If problem persists → check TCM/PCM or perform hydraulic pressure tests.
