P1744 = Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) System – Mechanical Malfunction / Performance Problem. It means the PCM/TCM detects the torque converter clutch is not engaging or disengaging as commanded.
1. Faulty TCC solenoid
2. Stuck valve in the valve body
3. Worn / damaged torque converter
4. Low, dirty, or overheated transmission fluid
5. Wiring/connector fault in transmission harness
6. Internal clutch or hydraulic pressure issue
1. Check Engine Light (CEL) ON
2. Transmission slipping at cruising speeds
3. Vehicle may shudder / vibrate around 60–80 km/h
4. Poor fuel efficiency
5. Transmission overheating
6. Sometimes stuck in limp mode
1. Scan with OBD-II tool → confirm P1744 and check related codes.
2. Check fluid level & condition (burnt fluid = torque converter/solenoid problem).
3. Inspect wiring & connectors.
4. Test TCC solenoid with a multimeter or scan tool.
5. If solenoid OK → suspect valve body or torque converter.
1. Replace / clean TCC solenoid
2. Flush & replace transmission fluid + filter
3. Repair wiring/connectors
4. Service / replace valve body if sticking
5. Replace torque converter if clutch is worn out
6. Reprogram/update PCM/TCM if applicable
