P1740 is a Transmission Control System fault. It generally points to a problem with torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid, overdrive solenoid, or internal hydraulic pressure loss depending on the vehicle make.
1. Faulty torque converter clutch solenoid
2. Faulty overdrive solenoid
3. Low / dirty transmission fluid
4. Wiring or connector issues in transmission harness
5. Internal transmission wear (clutch pack, valve body issues)
6. PCM/TCM software or failure (rare)
1. Check Engine Light (CEL) ON
2. Transmission slipping or hard shifting
3. Overheating transmission
4. Poor fuel economy
5. Vehicle stuck in limp mode (sometimes)
1. Scan with OBD-II tool → confirm P1740 and related codes.
2. Check transmission fluid level & condition.
3. Inspect wiring/connectors at transmission.
4. Test solenoids with a multimeter / scan tool.
5. Perform a line pressure test if needed.
1. Replace / clean TCC or overdrive solenoid.
2. Replace transmission fluid & filter.
3. Repair/replace damaged wiring or connectors.
4. Valve body service if solenoids are OK.
5. Transmission overhaul if clutches are badly worn.
