P2716 - Mercedes

This code means the Transmission Control Module (TCM) has detected an electrical problem with Pressure Control Solenoid “D”. This solenoid regulates hydraulic pressure inside the transmission to ensure smooth shifting. An electrical fault could mean the solenoid is open, shorted, or has a wiring/connector issue.

Possible Causes:

1. Faulty pressure control solenoid “D”
2. Damaged/corroded wiring or loose connectors
3. Short to ground or short to power in the solenoid circuit
4. Contaminated or burnt transmission fluid
5. Faulty TCM (rare)

Symptoms:

1. Harsh or delayed shifts
2. Transmission slipping
3. Stuck in limp mode
4. Check Engine Light / Transmission warning light on
5. Poor fuel economy

Quick Diagnosis:

1. Scan and confirm P2716
2. Check transmission fluid level & condition
3. Inspect wiring/connectors to solenoid “D”
4. Test solenoid resistance (compare to manufacturer spec, usually 12–30 Ω)
5. Check circuit continuity from solenoid to TCM.

Quick Repair:

1. Replace faulty pressure control solenoid “D” (replace filter & gasket if inside valve body)
2. Repair or replace damaged wiring/connectors
3. Refill with correct ATF fluid type and quantity
4. Update TCM software if available
5. Clear codes and road test
