P0763 - Mercedes

P0763 indicates a problem with the electrical circuit of Shift Solenoid “D” in your automatic transmission. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has detected an abnormal signal — likely due to a short, open, or failed solenoid.

Common Causes:

1. Faulty Shift Solenoid D
2. Open or shorted solenoid wiring
3. Corroded or loose electrical connectors
4. Burnt or dirty transmission fluid
5. TCM/PCM failure (rare)

Common Symptoms:

1. Harsh or delayed gear shifts
2. Transmission stuck in one gear (limp mode)
3. Poor fuel economy
4. Check Engine Light (CEL) on
5. Slipping or erratic shifting

Diagnosis Steps:

1. Scan all transmission-related DTCs (look for other solenoid-related codes)
2. Check transmission fluid – level, color (should be red/pink), and smell
3. Inspect wiring and connectors to the transmission and TCM
4. Test Shift Solenoid D using a multimeter (check resistance, usually 12–25 ohms)
5. Use a bi-directional scan tool to command the solenoid and observe function
6. If no wiring issues, solenoid or valve body may need replacement

Possible Fixes:

1. Replace Shift Solenoid D
2. Repair or replace damaged wiring/connectors
3. Replace transmission fluid and filter
4. Replace or clean valve body
5. Update or reprogram TCM/PCM
6. Rebuild transmission (if severe internal damage)
