P1743 = Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid Mechanical Malfunction. It usually indicates the TCC solenoid is stuck, not engaging/disengaging properly, or has a mechanical failure inside the transmission.

Common Causes

1. Failed TCC solenoid
2. Hydraulic blockage in valve body
3. Burnt / dirty transmission fluid
4. Wiring/connector issue to the TCC solenoid
5. Torque converter internal failure
6. Rarely: PCM/TCM fault

Symptoms

1. Check Engine Light ON
2. Transmission slipping at higher speeds
3. Overheating transmission
4. Poor fuel efficiency
5. Vehicle may shudder when cruising (lock-up not engaging smoothly)
6. In some cases, limp mode

Quick Diagnosis

1. Scan with OBD-II tool → confirm P1743 and related codes.
2. Check transmission fluid level & condition (burnt = problem inside).
3. Inspect wiring/connectors at transmission.
4. Test TCC solenoid resistance with multimeter.
5. If solenoid works electrically → issue is mechanical (valve body / converter).

Repair Steps

1. Replace TCC solenoid (most common fix).
2. Flush / replace transmission fluid & filter.
3. Repair / replace damaged wiring or connectors.
4. Service / rebuild valve body if solenoid isn’t the root cause.
5. If shuddering continues → possible torque converter replacement.
