This code indicates that the TCM (Transmission Control Module) or PCM (Powertrain Control Module) isn’t receiving a proper signal from the engine speed sensor (also called the crankshaft position sensor or input/turbine speed sensor, depending on the vehicle). The transmission relies on this signal to know engine RPM and coordinate gear shifts. If the signal is missing or erratic, the transmission can’t operate properly.
1. Faulty engine speed sensor / crankshaft position sensor
2. Damaged or corroded wiring/connectors in the sensor circuit
3. Poor electrical ground or open/short circuit
4. Failed input/turbine speed sensor (if system uses a separate one for transmission)
5. PCM/TCM fault (less common)
1. Transmission may go into limp mode
2. Harsh or erratic shifting
3. Engine may stall, crank but not start (if crankshaft sensor signal is lost)
4. Tachometer may stop working or behave erratically
5. Check Engine Light (CEL) / Transmission warning light
1. Check sensor wiring & connectors → look for loose, frayed, or corroded connections.
2. Inspect the engine speed sensor (or turbine speed sensor) → test resistance with a multimeter.
3. Check sensor signal with a scan tool or oscilloscope → verify clean RPM signal.
4. Replace faulty sensor if defective.
5. If sensor & wiring are good → check PCM/TCM for internal fault.
