This code means the Transmission Control Module (TCM) is not receiving a signal from the Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor “A”. This sensor monitors the rotational speed of the intermediate shaft inside the transmission and is essential for correct shift timing. If the TCM can’t read it, shifting will be affected and the vehicle may go into limp mode.
1. Faulty intermediate shaft speed sensor “A”
2. Damaged/corroded wiring or connector to the sensor
3. Open or short circuit in the sensor circuit
4. Excessive metal debris on sensor tip
5. Internal transmission mechanical issue affecting shaft rotation
6. Faulty TCM (rare)
1. Harsh, delayed, or incorrect shifts
2. Transmission stuck in limp mode
3. Speedometer or gear display issues (in some vehicles)
4. Check Engine Light or transmission warning light on
1. Confirm P0793 with OBD-II scanner
2. Visually inspect sensor and connector for damage or contamination
3. Check sensor wiring for corrosion, breaks, or shorts
4. Test sensor resistance with multimeter (compare to spec)
5. Check for metal debris stuck to the sensor tip
6. If wiring/sensor test fine, inspect TCM input signal with oscilloscope
1. Clean sensor tip and remove metal shavings
2. Repair/replace damaged wiring or connectors
3. Replace faulty intermediate shaft speed sensor “A”
4. Clear codes and road test
