P0715 - Audi

P0715** is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) indicating that the Transmission Control Module (TCM) has detected a problem with the input or turbine speed sensor “A”. This sensor monitors the rotational speed of the transmission’s input shaft, which helps the TCM manage gear shifts.
If this sensor isn’t working properly, the transmission may not shift correctly or could go into limp mode.

Common Symptoms:

1.️ Check Engine Light (CEL)
2.️ Transmission stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear (limp mode)
3. Harsh or delayed shifting
4. Speedometer or tachometer may act erratically (on some vehicles)
5. Poor acceleration or reduced power
6. No upshifts or erratic gear changes

Common Causes:

1. Faulty input/turbine speed sensor
2. Damaged wiring or corroded connector
3. Open or short circuit in the sensor wiring
4. Faulty TCM (rare)
5. Debris on magnetic sensor pickup or reluctor wheel

How to Fix It:

✅ Step-by-step:
1. Scan live data using a professional OBD2 tool
– Compare input shaft speed to engine RPM and output shaft speed
2. Inspect the sensor wiring and connector
– Look for broken wires, pinched harnesses, or moisture
3. Test the sensor
– Use a multimeter to check resistance (typically 200–1000 ohms depending on make)
4. Remove and clean sensor tip
– If it’s magnetic, debris can interfere with readings
5. Replace the sensor if readings are unstable or missing
6. Clear the code and retest

Location:

1. Usually mounted on the transmission housing, near the input shaft
2. May require removing the transmission pan (in some vehicles)

Common Vehicles:

1. Audi / VW DSG & Tiptronic
2. BMW (ZF 6HP/8HP)
3. Hyundai, Toyota, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, etc.
