P0710** is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that means the Transmission Control Module (TCM) has detected a problem with the Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor “A” circuit.
This sensor monitors the temperature of the transmission fluid and helps the TCM control shifting, line pressure, and torque converter operation.
1. Check Engine Light (CEL)
2.️ Harsh or delayed shifting
3. Transmission stuck in limp/safe mode
4.️ Poor performance when cold
5. Overheating or incorrect shift timing
1. Faulty transmission fluid temperature sensor
2. Open or shorted sensor wiring or connector
3. Contaminated or low transmission fluid
4. Faulty TCM (rare)
5. Internal transmission harness damage
6. Sensor not reading accurately due to extreme cold or heat
✅ Step-by-step:
1. Check transmission fluid level and condition
– Top up or replace if burnt, dirty, or low
2. Scan live data
– See if the TFT sensor is giving a realistic value (typically 70–100°C when hot)
3. Inspect wiring and connector
– Look for corrosion, water intrusion, or broken wires at the sensor plug
4. Test the sensor resistance
– Usually 200–3000 ohms depending on temperature
5. Replace the transmission fluid temperature sensor
– Often located inside the transmission pan (may be part of solenoid pack)
6. Clear the code and retest
1. Audi / VW DSG
2. ZF 6HP / 8HP
3. Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, etc.
